Manitoba Hydro crews worked late into the evening last night repairing a ruptured gas line at the corner of Peters Ave and Royal Cres.

Witnesses on scene report a strong odour of gas.

Manitoba Hydro's Scott Powell explains they received a call on Wednesday afternoon of a crew installing underground infrastructure that scraped a gas line causing a leak. Powell notes the pipe wasn't broken, but created a low velocity venting-to-atmosphere of natural gas.

"No danger of explosions or migration of the gas underground," he says, adding crews stopped the flow around 9:15 p.m and continued to replace the pipe.
