The first Wednesday of November is 'Take Your Kid To Work Day' for grade nine students across Manitoba.

Today many students spent the day being employees at various businesses in the Pembina Valley. These students were out and about helping their parents do their daily jobs and learning about what their parents do.

"I think it's cool to get a chance to see what our families are doing at work and get to experience it for ourselves," said Garden Valley Collegiate student Seth Friesen, who was working with his grandmother at Twice as Nice in Winkler.

The program supports career exploration and career readiness among Canadian public school students.

Friesen said he's learned that even though running a store may look easy, there's a lot more work required.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Fedack spent his day at Golden West in Winkler and learned a variety of things in the newsroom.

"Today I learned how to edit interviews and what to look out for. Like repeats of the same words or big gaps without any speaking," said Fedack. "I also learned how to do the weather."

Fedack was able to announce a weather forecast on the radio during his mother's (Pam Fedack) on-air shift.
