The committee for the community arena in Gretna is looking to install a new LED lighting system in the facility, after receiving a $15,000 grant from Enbridge.

The upgrade is necessary as the current technology is outdated, said Chris Franz, the Gretna Arena Committee chairperson.

"Currently, the mercury vapour lighting is very old technology and quite expensive in terms of electrical costs," Franz said. "It would be brighter with LED lighting and the cost would be, we're guessing, a third of what it is now."

The grant will cover one-third of the cost, which is approximately $47,000, he said. Although additional fundraising is required, the committee hopes to install the new system in time for the next winter season.

The donation is part of Enbridge's investment program that funds community projects in close proximity to the Line 3 Replacement pipeline.
