The class valedictorian for Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler says if she could choose one word to describe her graduating class, it would be "remarkable."

In the four years of high school she has known her peers, Brooklyn Stein says everyone has done such great things, like winning banners and trophies in individual and team sports, the band winning a trophy at a competition in Chicago, and art students taking part in various art shows in the region.  "Everyone was just doing what they love to do, and I think that's the best part of it," said Stein.

"We have a big class, and so many great people," said Stein "It's really cool how we have such a diverse group.  We have athletes, artists, songwriters, people who are into science, and people who are into math... It's important, especially going out to university that there's going to be so many people doing many different things with their lives."

As for being selected as valedictorian, Stein described it as a "crazy" feeling.  She said it's something she's wanted and has worked toward since elementary school.

Stein said she hopes to leave her classmates with a kind of comfort going out into the world and to feel like they're ready to leave GVC, but at the same time remember their time at the school.  "I want them to be able to laugh and remember the memories we do have here, but also get excited for the rest of our lives and how much more yet we have to do."

A number of GVC graduates will be attending university or some sort of post-secondary education come fall, including Stein.  She will be moving to Winnipeg with three of her friends with plans to attend the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg.  After her first year in U-1 at the U of M, Stein says she hopes to move into Architecture, and also continue doing other things she has come to love throughout high school, like art.
