The board of the Garden Valley School Division took its first formal look at the feedback it received through various means in regards to school catchments.

Three public presentations were held in April outlining four catchment proposals, with the catchment review committee recommending the board proceed with one specific proposal. People were then invited to submit feedback to the board and had until May 4 to do so.

"We received a lot of affirmation, a few suggestions, and we received feedback on other considerations," said Board Chair Laurie Dyck. "We've been very pleased with the feedback that was received... people care and they are letting us know."

Now that the board has gone through the feedback, the catchment review committee will look at the data, and the board's education committee will also revisit the information. What comes from that process will then be discussed by the board at its meeting June 12, where the plan will also be given final approval.

Dyck says it's important to the board to have a plan in place as quickly as possible. "It helps our staff, our students, our families that are affected by this, we want to be fair to them and have our families know where their students will be going, and how that will work. It's always best to settle those questions as soon as we can so people can make plans and move forward."
