The number of students starting kindergarten this fall in the Garden Valley School Division (GVSD) is expected to be on par with projections.

Superintendent Vern Reimer said 306 kindergarten age students have already been registered for the 2018/19 school year.

Reimer said they typically get about 85% of kindergarten registrations for the upcoming school year by March 1.  If that pattern continues, Reimer said they will likely again have a kindergarten class of between 350 and 360 by fall.

At this point, Reimer said their projections are right on target at each elementary school, with the exception of Plum Coulee School and Parkland Elementary in Winkler.  "Plum Coulee is a little lower than expected, and Parkland is a little higher than expected," said Reimer.  "But again, we'll wait to see what happens in the next number of months."

The current year's kindergarten class in GVSD is just under 357 students.
