The Garden Valley School Division has appointed its next superintendent.

Todd Monster, who has worked for the division for 19 years, the last 11 as Program and Curriculum Assistant Superintendent has been selected to fill the role.

Monster will replace current Superintendent, Vern Reimer who will retire at the end of this school year.

Board Chair Laurie Dyck said Monster's history with the division will be a definite asset as he takes over the position. "One of the pieces for sure is the 19 years he's spent with us. He knows GVSD well, he brings senior administration experience, which is a huge part of stepping into that next senior admin role as superintendent."

Monster says he's deeply humbled and honoured by the faith and trust the board has placed in him with this new appointment. "I've had the pleasure of working with Mr. Reimer now for the past 11 years, and that's been extremely rewarding, and I recognize that he's done a remarkable job in as serving as superintendent, " said Monster.

Monster said his goal as superintendent will be to maintain the strong relationships that have been built and continue to support a culture of trust throughout the division.  "At this point and time all the right ingredients are already in place, we have a caring and committed board, great staff with wonderful students, and supportive families."

Monster says he looks forward with excitement to continue to serve the students, staff, and families of Garden Valley School Division.

He will take over as superintendent August 1st, 2018.

Meanwhile, the board will now begin the search to fill Monster's role.
