Some action will be taking place at the site of Garden Valley School Division's upcoming new school this week.

Superintendent Vern Reimer, said although it may look like construction could be getting started as some big equipment will be brought on site, it's only test work being done. Reimer said based on geotechnical data, a hand full of test piles will be driven into the ground as part of the structural design process. "So essentially there will be about a week of activity there."

Reimer said they expect tenders on the new school to go out at the end of January, with construction starting as early as February 2018.

The new school in the Pine Ridge area of Winkler is expected to open in fall of 2019.

A new K-8 school will be built on an 8 acre parcel of land in Winkler's northwest corner, south of Highway 14
