Halloween can be an exciting day of candy and spending time with the family, and Morden Police Chief, Brad Neduzak, encourages people of all ages to stay safe.

"I know with costumes, normally they are darker in colour, so if you can wear some sort of reflective material . . . something that will allow the motorists to see you better," he says.

He adds, it's important to try and keep to the sidewalks, and stick to one side of the street before heading to the other. With so many vehicles driving and parking on the road, it can be difficult to see people in dark clothing around vehicles, large bushes and trees, and any spots that may not be well lit.

Although parents don't always wear costumes or collect candy for themselves, it is good to set an example by walking safely, and wearing reflective clothing.

"We just want to make the motorists and the people out there aware that it will be very busy out on the streets, and just to take your time."

Once families have collected their candy loot, Neduzak says it doesn't hurt to check their candy, even though the area hasn't seen many issues.

"We always still encourage parents to go through the candies before the kids dig into them. Some people still like to make the homemade treats which is very nice, but we encourage the parents just to check through and make sure all the packaging is okay and intact," says Neduzak.

Parents are also encouraged to tag along behind their kids to make sure they are being safe and following the rules.
