Winkler's Eric Fehr is saying goodbye to the NHL and hello to the Swiss League.

Fehr has joined the National League in Switzerland, signing a one-year contract with Geneve-Servette HC.

"It's exciting for myself and my family to make the move over," Fehr says. "It's going to be awesome, a neat family experience and a different type of hockey experience."

Fehr notes he's always imagined playing in Switzerland but didn't know if he'd get the chance to "see different countries and play in a different league... it's definitely something I wanted to do."

He adds the Swiss fans are very passionate about their teams "it's got a little bit of a soccer feel in the stands with the chanting."

With two fellow NHL veterans on the team, Fehr says he will be one of a handful of North American players on the team based in Geneva.

"We are very pleased to announce the signing of Eric Fehr for next season," Ontario-native and Head Coach and General Manager at Genève-Servette HC Chris McSorley said in a release. "Eric brings with him an experience of more than 700 NHL matches at Geneva-Servette... Eric is a very talented forward with a very good shot and a great ability to create the game."

"His work ethic and experience will undoubtedly be a real added value for the entire locker room," adds Geneve-Servette HC President Laurent Strawson.

Fehr recently finished the 2018-19 season with the Minnesota Wild playing 72 games and adding seven goals and eight assists.
