Athletes will arrive this week in Brandon for the 2017 Legion National Track and Field Championship.

The venues are ready to go and Legion officials couldn't be happier with the host committee and local volunteers.

“We had a meeting this week and I was amazed at how organized the group is and I mean every sub-committee,” said Angus Stanfield VP of the Royal Canadian Legion.

He adds the track at the Sportsplex is world class and athletes will be pleased with where they are competing.

“Each province is allowed to bring 44 athletes and this year we have more than 700 athletes from across the country.”

The competitors start on Friday and the championship will wrap up on Sunday.

“Monday many of the athletes will still be here and we have nine buses going to CFB Shilo for a tour of the base and then it's back to Brandon for some shopping,” said Stanfield.

This is the first of two championships Brandon will host because the track and field nationals will return to Brandon in 2018.
