Morden Police Service is reminding residents improperly storing cannabis comes with a hefty fine.

According to a recent report, police seized an amount of marijuana after a traffic stop in Morden last week. The drug had been left in the front seat of a vehicle which falls under the Unlawful Transportation of Cannabis, and with it a $237 fine.

In Manitoba cannabis must be stored in the trunk of a vehicle or an exterior compartment designed to carry baggage that is not readily accessible to anyone in the vehicle.

Non-medical cannabis is legal in Canada as of October 17, though police remind residents users must be 19 years of age and can only buy from licensed retailers. Residents can only carry up to 30 grams
