The Inaugural Winkler Dodgeball League season has come to a close and a champion has been crowned. The Dodgefathers needed an overtime set to defeat Clear Eyes, Full Hearts 7-6 in the championship match.

"I would say the inaugural dodgeball league was a success definitely. I think the teams had a lot fun playing. Obviously we are trying different things and different rules to see what works for our league," said Winkler recreational programmer Jordan Driedger. "Overall it was a success."

Initially Driedger thought they would need eight teams in order to be able to run the league. It may have taken longer than expected, but Driedger noted all eight slots were full and the season got underway from there. He stated since the inception of this league he's had a number of people express their interest in entering a team next year.

"People started talking about it at work or sharing it with their friends and family. Then more people start to hear about it and I expect even more teams will register next year," added Driedger.

With more teams, comes the opportunity to separate the teams into pools or groups classifying them as competitive, non-competitive, and even corporate. At this time Driedger stated this is an option, but the interest has to be there in order for them to do make a second league.

As for registration for the second year of the dodgeball league Driedger noted you can do so by calling the rec department in December to register your team. He added they'd like to get the league up and running again in February.
