The following is the Winkler Police Service report for the period of November 7 to 13, 2016, as submitted by the department.

During this week our police service opened 69 files, with fewer than usual property offence complaints. The following is an overview of the weeks events.

November 10th:
At approximately 11:32 p.m., officers received a call via 911 advising of a collision between a motorist and a pedestrian on Orion Lane.  Officers arrived to find a female victim obviously injured, and an intoxicated male standing nearby.  The male denied involvement and provided a false name to officers attempting to determine his identity.  Witnesses were quick to point out that the male police were speaking to was the driver of the vehicle in question.  The witnesses stated they were physically attempting to prevent him from driving away from the party due to his intoxicated state. During the attempt, the driver rapidly reversed the vehicle off of the driveway, striking one of those trying to stop him.  The driver then left the scene and finally parked on a church parking lot where the witnesses again approached him and took control of the car keys.  From there they brought him back to the scene and waited for officers to arrive.  A 22 year male resident of Morden was taken into custody to further the investigation.  He provided breath samples for analysis and produced readings of 120 mg/%.  He was released to his father on Promise to Appear with an undertaking, charged with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Driving over .08 Causing Bodily Harm, Failing to stop at the Scene of an Accident, and Obstruct Peace Officer.  The pedestrian was transported to the BTHC where she was treated and released.
