The third annual Katie Cares Street Hockey Tournament is in the books. Saturday, thirteen teams competed in the corporate and competitive groupings to be the winner.

"It's a great turnout this year," said organizer Don Dueck. "We were a little worried that we wouldn't have enough teams, but we ended up with thirteen and it's great."

Nearly $10,000 was raised during the third annual hockey tournament.

Money raised from the tournament will go to support Katie's Cottage explained Dueck. He went on to say it is sort of inexpensive to stay at the cottage, but the costs still need to be paid and fundraising is one of the best ways to do that.

Katie Cares and Katie's Cottage helps many people in the area during a difficult time in everyone's life. The Cottage allows people to stay close to a loved one, while in the hospital and awareness and funds to make this all possible is important to ensuring everyone is comfortable and looked after during this rough time in life.

"It's so important to raise awareness for Katie Cares and these good organizations. The sponsorship dollars are up this year from last year and the teams are about the same," said Dueck. "You get more companies involved and get more good word out for Katie Cares."
