Katie's Cottage received a $4,800 boost this week after a special Valentine's Day fundraiser.

Earlier this month, the Buhler Active Living Centre held a banquet featuring their signature ribs and all proceeds going towards the local respite home.

Katie Cares' Ruth Reimer explains she was overwhelmed after being approached for the fundraiser. "This was so awesome; I can't say it enough how much we appreciate the support and the outpouring of help."

During the banquet Reimer shared the mission of Katie Cares and Katie's Cottage, hoping to bring more awareness to the non-profit and the work they do within the community.

"Last year we supported a spina bifida group and this year we wanted to select a local charity or a local group that has an impact on our community, Buhler Active Living Centre Executive Director Mike Chute says. "So we decided on Katie Cares."

Last year the Buhler Active Living Centre supported the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Manitoba with a similar fundraiser.
