The Province's new eRegistration system is modernizing land title registrations and will hopefully eliminate errors often found in paper-based forms.

"It really helps whoever is completing them (online forms) make sure the information is accurate and complete, it will be a huge benefit," Nancy Anderson, General Manager of the Property Registry explains.

All lawyers and financial institutions will be required to use the new eRegistration system on April 3, 2018.

Barry Effler, Registrar-General for Manitoba explains the change will also improve service times.

"It's important that customers of The Property Registry take steps now to prepare for eRegistration," he says.

The new system is expected to speed up land title registrations in the province by automating the registration and payment of submitted documents. The system is built using a series of secure digital smart forms, originally released throughout 2015 and 2016.

"It sounds like this is a step in the right direction and one that is needed," Michael Grenier, Winkler-based SRES Realtor, says. "It should obviously reduce wait times with transferring and registering the land titles.  And with that, lawyers should have improved flexibility and efficiency in completing files related to real estate."

Use of the smart forms, including the form used to register mortgages in Manitoba, will become mandatory when eRegistration launches in December. Financial institutions who want to register mortgages in Manitoba will need to update their standard charge terms and instructions to solicitors.

The Property Registry will be providing training and support in fall 2017 to help clients become accustomed to the new system.
