Genesis House and South Central Cancer Resource were the recipients of the 15th annual Legends Car Club Charity Drag Races. Each non-profit received a cheque for $3,872.

Race Co-chair Don Elias explains they wanted to support Genesis House and the organization's work in family violence prevention, as well as providing a safe haven for women and children.

The area served by the women's shelter includes everything from Dominion City to the east, to Clearwater in the west, south to the U.S border, and north to Highway 2.

This past year Genesis House saw their shelter provide 1,782 beds, up from 1,564 the previous year.

The South Central Cancer Resource Centre also received $3,872 as they continue to provide rides for cancer patients in the region.

The centre relies on donations as they receive no funding from the government.

Next year's 16th Annual Charity Drags will be held on August 18-19.
