Legends Car Club members from across Southern Manitoba have once again donated to South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR). The money was raised during the club's annual 'Drive for Cancer' event held earlier this year, with the cheque presentation happening Tuesday night.

"We're known for this now, so people carry pledge forms around with them leading up to the event, and they tap people up for 5, 10, 20 bucks at the coffee shop, and the money all gets pooled together at the end, and amazingly it comes out to over $14,000," said Lyle Dunsmore, Vice President of the club.

"Their costs have gone up dramatically for transportation we're told, and we started out by saying 'Okay we have cars, that leads into the transportation aspect of it'," he said.

The transportation program brings patients to and from hospital appointments.

The club members have supported SCCR for almost 14 years, raising over $150,000 total, said Dunsmore.

June Letkeman, President of SCCR, said the organization is grateful for donations like these, because they do not receive government grants.

"We have different services, our transportation is our biggest cost... last year was about $110,000," she said.

SCCR provides support to cancer patients who live in the service area of Boundary Trails Health Centre.

"We have a big area," Letkeman said.

The organization includes many other services, such as providing accommodations, so families can be with their loves ones during long hospital stays.
