After more than a decade, a local cartoonist has brought his long-running 'Interesting Times' series to a close.

Nathan Fehr penned a total of 2,000 entries of his semi-biographical comic, sometimes updating as often as three times a week.

He says it was simply time to focus on his growing family. Together with his wife Lori they welcomed their first child six months ago.

However, looking back he says the comics created a number of incredible opportunities.

One popular comic made a wry observation on the look of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg.

"Lots of folks were like, "I'll never un-see that," and that makes me very, very happy... I've subtly altered your perception of the world."

Eventually the comic went viral and the museum staff, amused as well, contacted Fehr and offered them free tickets and a behind the scenes tour of the facility.

While the comic has slowly gained steam among the community, he says the connections around the world have been inspiring.

In 2011 'Interesting Times' inspired a young man from Malaysia to draw a comic in the same style. They eventually would connect and collaborate.

"I'm not being mobbed by fans, but the fact I could have possibly inspired someone to make art of their own? That is awesome," he says.

He notes, his main inspirations were Calvin & Hobbes and Garfield.

Fehr saw his work on display at the Winkler Arts and Culture centre during last year's Winkler Comic Con

And like those artists, Fehr was never afraid to tackle more serious tones.

"Humour has a great way of getting under people's armour and letting you say something true," he says.

While the comic may be done, Fehr says his creativity will likely find an outlet in the future.
