Burn bans are once again popping up in the province, due to dry conditions.

The RM of Montcalm, RM of Stuartburn, and RM of Dufferin have burn bans in effect. Small recreational fires in enclosed pits are permitted in the RM of Montcalm and Stuartburn, but not the RM of Dufferin.

Carman-Dufferin Fire Chief Ben Vanderzwaag explains why a burn ban has been issued for the RM of Dufferin.

"At this point we've recognized that conditions are very very dry, and with the fall we sometimes can experience some windy days as well. Based on all that we're trying to be proactive and prevent some loss," said Vanderzwaag.

The area is very dry, he said. "We've had very very little to no moisture in the RM of Dufferin over the last few weeks."

This year council for the RM of Dufferin passed a By-law making it easier to issue burn bans. Vanderzwaag said he's pleased the community takes the bans seriously.

"We've decided that we're better off being proactive and we've been very excited how the community has responded to the burning ban. People are inquiring about it and asking whether it is safe to burn," he said.

So far this fall Vanderzwaag said there haven't been any fire calls related to the dry conditions.
