Regional Connections in Winkler has a new piece of hardware that it can now put on display in its office.
Last week, the immigrant services organization was presented with the Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce 2020 P.W. Enns Not-For-Profit Service Award.
The award was scheduled to presented last year at the Chamber's annual banquet, but the pandemic forced the cancellation of that event.
Executive Director Steve Reynolds says the award recognizes the hard work the organization's staff and volunteers do for the community.
"It also recognizes the importance of immigration to the community and the positive impact it has had. That also doesn't just happen by itself but a lot of people have been putting in a lot of work to make sure immigration is happening really well locally. It's really great to see the recognition for all of that."
That kind of dedication, even in the midst of a pandemic, never really stopped, according to Reynolds, as they continued to respond to the needs of newcomers.
"We felt it was important to continue working and be available and help meet needs locally. We've been really flexible on how we do that with a lot more remote work, virtual work, video calls and online assessments; just adapting all the time and our staff has been great with that."
