A breakfast fundraiser was held on Saturday to help support Dale Unger and Pete Wall from the Altona area.

The two left on Tuesday for a missions trip to India. Unger says an Indian pastor sparked their interest in supporting the Christian communities there.

Unger is one of the coordinators for the India Missions trip fundraiser and says, the idea all started when Indian Pastor Boaz Kotha came to Canada.

"We met a pastor from India when he was in Canada a number of years ago and connected well with him. He told us about their mission with the Christian church in India and its struggles to function within the Hindu and Muslim communities there, so we got on board and just started supporting them."

Unger says the funds they raised will go towards stabilizing a number of communities in India that are suffering, as well as helping to rebuild an orphanage.

"The importance of helping others in other lands brings my mind to when Jesus talks about the rich man and Lazarus, where Lazarus is suffering and the rich man is thriving obviously. I often draw a parallel there between the country of India, or other poor nations and ourselves," he says.

Unger says, he and Wall plan on "spreading the gospel and loving the orphans, and the widows, and the HIV-infected people. As well as the lepers there, and just making sure we spread the love of Christ wherever we are."

He adds it is important that people "remember their brothers and sisters across the ocean."
