The Manitoba government has appointed eight individuals to the Manitoba Women's Advisory Council and one of them is from the Altona area.

Verna Klippenstein-Heinrichs has been selected to the board of directors by Rochelle Squires, minister responsible for the status of women.

The new board represents a wholesale change in the Council's directors and a reduction in size from 15 down to eight members.

"It's always an honour to serve the community and serve women in all areas of Manitoba and this is something that the Council endeavours to do," said Klippenstein-Heinrichs.

The Manitoba Women’s Advisory Council was established through an Order in Council in 1980.  It serves as an advisory board to government on the issues of concern to women and works to enhance the overall status of women.

"I'm pleased to welcome these new members to the women’s advisory council," said Squires. "We’ve created a fresh board that will benefit from the combination of wisdom and experience these members bring from various backgrounds and perspectives."

According to a news release issued by the province, Klippenstein-Heinrichs speaks English, French and German and has a proven high production record in a unique mix of international trade, agribusiness, agricultural exports, environmental issues, investments, post-secondary education and health care.

She added, her "demonstrated interest and relevant knowledge in women's issues and the ability to network with women and organizations," likely factored into her selection to the council.

Klippenstein-Heinrichs is eager to get started and feels the council has a good mix of people with a variety of skill sets and experience that will work work well together.
