The Rising Roseau River and its tributaries are causing problems in the RM of Stuartburn. Reeve Jim Swidersky says they've already had to put a dike around one home and are watching another.

"On Tuesday night we had to tiger tube one of the residences east of Stuartburn and we're carefully watching ice jams. There's another residence just east of Gardenton that we're watching and it's flowing hard. We're very worried about some ice jams that may happen or not happen. Some roads are washing out south of Vita so residents have to be careful when they're driving out there because things happen so fast."

Swidersky notes the Gardenton Floodway is full of ice and he's worried that, as it breaks up, there will be ice jams near the communities of Gardenton and Stuartburn where there are some sharp bends in the river. He adds they've also been told there is a lot of water to come from upstream.

"We got notice from our American friends down south that they are emptying their wildlife management cells which drain directly into the Roseau River. They say they haven't seen water levels that high for a long time. So, we're expecting high levels on the Roseau for quite some time yet."

Swidersky warns residents that roads are in rough shape due to spring thaw and now there are places where water is running over them as well as some washouts. He urges people to use extra caution and, if possible, to avoid areas where there is water over the road.
