Between world-class musicians, free food, and concerts, it was a busy weekend in Plum Coulee, with many attendees saying events were packed.

The weekend kicked off with The Bunker's famous pulled pork on a bun, live entertainment all evening with Five Acres, Bare Yogis, as well as a family street dance.

June Letkeman, Director for the Plum Fest, says the Bare Yogis played a number of years ago at Plum Fest and people were excited that they were coming back.

Momentum continued through Saturday with the Waffle and Crackle breakfast, the parade, fireman’s rodeo, a concert by Rosemary Siemens and friends, and a very well attended Plum Coulee School Reunion in the evening.

A focal point of Plum Fest was the public wedding held Sunday in the town square.

Hundreds gathered to support internationally acclaimed musicians, violinist and vocalist, Rosemary Siemens and 35-time award-winning saxophonist Eli Bennett.

Rosemary and Eli were so thankful for the support of the community and Siemens says it was so special to see a community come together in a moment like this.

"It made it so special to see the support of the community. It’s like a big extended family for us so we just love it," Rosemary says.

After Eli's wedding proposal to Siemens at the Buhler Hall in Gretna went viral, the couple wanted to share their moment with the community since many people had seen them begin the first step towards their life journey together.

Morden’s Mayor Ken Wiebe attended the event saying it was admirable seeing how proud Rosemary is of her community.

"So often we have people who get somewhere in life and claim to be from somewhere else. Rosemary has never denied she’s from Plum Coulee she’s proud of the fact. The fact she dragged all her famous friends to Plum Coulee instead of trying to drag her family to Vancouver is absolutely amazing!"

In true Southern Manitoba style, guests were treated to watermelon and roll kuchen following the ceremony.
