An agreement was hammered out earlier this month between the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin and the province in regards to the transfer of property. The Dike that protects the community of Emerson, and currently sits in the LUD of Emerson from PTH 75 to the PR 200, was built on Municipal Right Of Way Land.

"It's more of a paper work issue than anything else. Basically we just need to take the properties in that area off the municipality's title and public right of way and transfer them to Crown Land so that they are part of the dyke property," said Emerson-Franklin CAO Tracey French.

French added, the properties are assessed very low do to the location, but still come at a cost to the municipality. The transfer of this land that is unusable will reduce cost to the tax payer in the municipality.

"Currently the property has been maintained as dyke property, and that process will continue at the cost and responsibility of the province," said French.
