After a nearly 40-year career many would consider relaxing or slowing down. Instead, selling tools seems to run deep in the marrow for Ray Bergen.

"I've grown up with tools," he said, after getting his start in the industry in 1979. "And pretty much had something to do with tools ever since."

And rather than taking a step back after a full career in the industry, Bergen has opened up a new store, RB's Home of Tools & More, on Main Street in Winkler.

"It was more the challenge, I was looking for something to do again," Bergen explained. "This feels like home."

Bergen credits Winkler's booming trades industry for opening doors for entrepreneurs like himself

Bergen has even set up a kitchen table in the back for coffee breaks with customers. It's easy to see the store is more than a job, but a lifestyle.

He noted Winkler's booming trades industry has opened the doors for entrepreneurs like himself.

Bergen continues to work with people from a wide range of industrial, farm and carpentry trades, as well as anyone that needs tool at home or in the garage.

"That's what's nice about this area, it's such a big trading area with an influx from surrounding towns ... there [are] people from all walks of life."

And after nearly 40 years in the business there are very few questions that surprise him.

"I've seen a lot of things over the years, I'd have a pretty good idea," he said. "If something is broken we can help you fix it."

"This feels like home," said Bergen
