A major winter storm is wreaking havoc on travel conditions throughout Southern Manitoba. Monday evening RCMP closed a majority of the highways south of the Trans Canada highway and west of Highway 75 to the Saskatchewan border. Many more highways in Southwestern Manitoba, north of the Number 1 are also closed.

Blizzard Warnings remain in effect for much of Southwestern Manitoba beginning as far east as Manitou to the Saskatchewan border. 10 to 15 centimeters of snow is expected to fall Monday night into Tuesday and coupled with northwesterly winds of 60 gusting to 80 km/h, visibility is down to zero in many locations.

Meanwhile in the Red River Valley, as of shortly after 9 p.m., snow had yet to start falling, but the forecast still indicates 2 to 4cms by Tuesday morning, with an additional 2 to 4 cm's throughout Tuesday. Very strong westerly winds gusting to 80 km/h will impact the Red River Valley for much of Tuesday leading to potentially poor visibility and challenging driving conditions.
