A man from the R.M. of Grey is appearing in court today to answer to several charges stemming from a long weekend incident.

The 28-year-old has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, assaulting police with a weapon, and impaired driving, after an officer with Treherne RCMP tried to pull him over shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday.

The officer attempted the traffic stop after a pickup truck was observed travelling at a high rate of speed in the community of Treherne. During the chase, the suspect vehicle hit the police car and forced both vehicles into the ditch. The suspect continued to drive until he reached a dead-end road and then fled on foot.

He was eventually located with the assistance of police service dog Genie out of Brandon.

There were no injuries reported and Treherne RCMP continue to investigate.
