Winkler Police were called to a pair of bizarre incidents this past week.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m on August 25 police were notified of an assault that had just taken place on the patio at Tim Horton's.

Police learned that an argument between three teenage males and one adult male escalated into one of the teenage males spraying what is believed to be pepper spray at the adult male.

The pepper spray struck two different individuals who were also seated on the patio. The three males fled the scene and could not be located by police upon a search of the area.

This file is still under investigation.

On August 24 police were called to a Winkler convenience store after staff reported a customer who appeared to be naked from the waist down.

A staff member at 7-11 provided the description and license plate of the vehicle in which the suspect had departed and advised police that the truck was headed west on Highway 14.

Officers began searching for the vehicle and notified the Morden Police Service to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle.

Shortly after Morden Police pulled over the vehicle in Morden.

Officers soon learned that although the male appeared to be naked from the waist down, he was wearing a very small pair of underwear which was covered by the long shirt he was wearing.

The male apologized for the misunderstanding, and was dealt with through alternative measures.

August 21

Police received a report of a possible fight behind the Winkler Arena between two individuals. The two adult males stated they were having a conversation in regards to a female and that no fight had taken place. Both males then went their separate way and left the area.

A report was received from a man who stated that his vehicle was parked at his place of work where he noticed that the back window of the vehicle was shattered but still intact. The damage to the vehicle may have taken place from August 14 to August 19. The cause of the damage is unknown, and there are no suspects at this time.

Ambulance Dispatch requested police attend to an unknown address on Salem Crescent to assist a female who was in medical distress after consuming a “weed capsule”. The woman was reported to have shallow breathing, a rapid pulse and was vomiting. The female stated she and two friends received the capsules at a wedding, but would not provide officers with the name of the person from whom they received the capsules. The woman and her friends were transported to the Boundary Trails Health Centre as a precaution.

August 22

At approximately 12:30am, police received a noise complaint of loud music coming from a nearby home. Police spoke with the homeowner and advised him to turn down the music for the evening. The male was argumentative and confrontational with police, however eventually agreed to turn down the music as instructed.

August 23

Residents of 8th Street South reported that two males had been on their property at approximately 3:00am and had attempted to gain access to their garage and home. The two males were unable to enter the home and the homeowners confirmed that nothing from the property was stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

August 24

Police received a report of a possible assault taking place between a male and female who were yelling at each other on the parking lot of an apartment building. Both parties admitted to police that they had been arguing with raised voices but police found no evidence of either party being assaulted. The male and female then departed the scene separately.

Shortly before 3:00am, police received a report of two suspicious males in front of a business on Main Street who may be attempting to break into the store. The two males told police that they were using the free Wi-Fi hot spot in the front of the business, and were not attempting to break in. Liquor could be smelled on the breath of both males, therefore police instructed the males to go home for the night. The males were cooperative and left the scene.

August 25

A complaint was received from the Winkler Recreation Department who reported mischief to the Pineridge Skate Park washroom. This file is still under investigation.
