The suspect in a Winkler church stabbing incident has been convicted of aggravated assault.

On August 27, 2017, Winkler police and emergency crews responded to an assault at the Pembina Valley Baptist Church. Police found a 15-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. 

Police quickly located a suspect in the church parking lot. Maksym Kravchenko, age 39 at the time of the incident was charged and remanded into custody.

On March 7, 2019, Kravchenko was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
