Manitoba Hydro is doing its part to keep up with the fast pace of growth in the City of Winkler.

The crown corporation has earmarked $4 - million for a planned expansion at the Winkler Market Station, located at Pembina Avenue and Market Street.

MB Hydro's Bruce Owen says the existing site will be expanded to install an additional, larger transformer.

"The City of Winkler is busy on another land-use planning document to accommodate that growth, not only for now but years to come. And of course, we're in the same position," says Owen.

Owen says for the community to grow and for people to have reliable electricity, not just today but in the future, is why they are doing this work. He says hydro wants to ensure there is reliable service as more people move into the community, and more businesses are establishing themselves in the community. Owen says those people moving in will expect reliable service as well.

The Winkler Market Station is one of three capacity improvements in the Winkler area to meet forecasted growth over the next 15 years. Also in the works, an expansion to the Winkler North substation and a future new substation.
