The Morden and District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) announced a pair of award recipients this week. The Not-For-Profit award will be given to the Morden Elks Club (Lodge #478) while the Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Blayne Wyton.

Growing up in a family business, Wyton said the thought of trying his own hand at being an entrepreneur was exciting. He said the idea for his business came to him after seeing a family member install a re-claimed barnwood floor.

However, he said his success wouldn't have been possible without the support from great staff and the community.

"Zig Ziglar (an American Author/motivational speaker) says to build people and they'll build your business," said Wyton. It's kind of emotional for me because it actually works. If you build people, they'll build your dream and business."

''I just have a dream and passion to see people grow into where they can thrive," added Wyton. "Whether that's inside the business or just using this business to help them launch into something else. I'm happy to see that it's working that way."

Meanwhile, the Morden Elks Club has been raising money for youth-oriented projects throughout the community and will be recognized with the not-for-profit of the year award.

Exalted Ruler Charlie Hildebrand said the recognition isn't the reason they do what they do, but it does feel good.

"It's nice seeing people happy with the things that you've done," said Hildebrand.

The annual awards gala will be held at McGee's Family Restaurant at the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club November 2nd.
