The bank account for the Carman Personal Care Home project continues to grow, despite the fact that the fund-raising campaign hasn't even started. The latest donation is an expected $300,000 estate bequest from George and Mary Stevenson, formerly of Miami, Man.

"It's a marvelous bequest to receive,"said Kelvin Smith, Chair of the PCH Planning and Development Committe. "It certainly is encouraging for our community and our organizing committee that we get this kind of donation."

He added that this isn't the first estate bequest to come in to the project, and explained that a large sum of money came in about three years ago from a man in Manitou, Man.

"This project involves a larger community other than just right around Carman. The surrounding municipalities of Thompson, Grey and Roland are certainly involved and are in the catchment area for the personal care home, so it's nice that we're receiving recognition of the need by people just not right in Carman but certainly out in the surrounding communities," said Smith.

He added this latest bequest, along with a few smaller donations here-and-there, has brought the fund-raising total for the $25 million-$30 million PCH to around $600,000-$700,000.
