Records were broken last Saturday in Carman at the 20th annual Mike Pritchard Memorial Golf Tournament.

Registration hit capacity at approximately 190 players, seven more than last year; and $30,000 is expected to have been raised, $9,000 more than in 2016.

Carman Area Foundation and South Central Cancer Resource will be the recipients of the monies raised at this year's tournament.

The memorial tournament began after Mike Pritchard passed away from cancer in the late 1990s. Since then, Mike's brother and event organizer Darren Pritchard said it has grown each year, and they even had to turn some hopeful participants away due to lack of space.

"It is absolutely incredible; it just keeps getting bigger and bigger... It is very touching how many people have come out to support the family and to support cancer... I just want to say thank you," said Pritchard.

Mike Pritchard was an avid golfer, working as a superintendent at the Carman golf course for around seven years and then at the Minnedosa golf course for another three years. Eventually, he moved on to Grand Pines golf course near Grand Beach where he was a key player in the development of the course, said his brother. Shortly after, he became sick and passed away in 1997.
