The City of Morden has signed off on a service borrowing agreement which formalized a "handshake" understanding which has existed for years.

Under the new agreement, services in all departments can be shared between Winkler, Morden, and the R.M. of Stanley. Morden City Manager John Scarce explained that a piece of equipment could now be shared between the three governments with clear guidelines on the use and repair of that equipment.

"In this world of Southern Manitoba, we're not alone," said Scarce, "and we can call on our brothers and sisters with confidence."

The upcoming water treatment plant was the original reason to have this agreement since the plant will be shared between Morden, Winkler, and R.M. of Stanley. Now, however, the various councils can meet up to discuss ways to save money on any and all services provided by them. Cross training is also more readily available thanks to the agreement.

"This just ionizes what we've done, ad hoc, before by having the council signing the agreement," Scarce said.

Any risk that existed for any of the three councils before the agreement was signed, has been nullified thanks to the resolution.
