The City of Morden Council has made a change to it's sewer and water rate by-law, as set in By-Law 7-2017.

"The changes are aimed to improve the administration and billing process. The wording in our previous by-law has caused a little bit of confusion to residents as to how to interpret the bill," said Mayor Ken Wiebe.

The bill showed charges for consumption of the past three months while the service dates reflected service charges being billed three months in advance. With the most recent change the consumption and service charge will align and reflect the past three months.

"We hope this will make the utility bill to easier to understand and the consumption used and service fee will be for the billing period noted on the bill not as it was previously," said Wiebe.

Wiebe explained there has been a few residents coming in to get clarification on their bills in the past, which aided council in making this decision.

He added this amendment is retro-active to June 1st and residents will notice no service fee of $15.50 as they have already paid for the months of March to May on the past March bill. The service fee will appear again starting with the September bill as that bill will cover the period of June to August.

"The changes should also make it easier for landlords to calculate their change of tenants' bill mid quarter, as they will easily be able to calculate the consumption and prorate the service fee for the necessary dates within the billing quarter," concluded offers clerk Angela Adams.
