The Morden Figure Skating Club held their annual carnival Sunday afternoon at the Access Event Centre. It is a great chance for skaters to showcase their talents, says President, Tara Braun.

"I think it went really well. It was nice and smooth, the kids were having a blast behind the scenes and on the ice, and I think everyone just did a really great job."

Morden Figure Skating Club President, Tara Braun. There may have been some slips and falls between the 70 participants, but Braun says the skating community is always supportive as they cheer on skaters from the moment their music starts, to the second it ends.

She notes that one of the highlights was performances from all three of their Pembina Pizazz teams.

"We had just skated the day before at Crocus Invitational in Neepawa where all three of our teams got gold, so it was really exciting to have them skate after that at the carnival, as well as to have all our little CanSkaters out there in their costumes and having a great time."

There were also a number of skaters that made it to provincials two weeks ago in Winkler, many of which medalled. The carnival gave them an opportunity to show off those winning routines to friends and family that may not be able to travel and support them at competitions throughout the season.

"It's nice to do it back home on your ice, and show what you've been doing all year," she says.

As well, the carnival opens up doors for young skaters who are uncertain of where their skating skills could take them in the future.

Braun says, "my daughter started off coming to a carnival thinking she wanted to play hockey and after seeing the carnival decided she wanted to be a figure skater."

She thanks the club members, board, and coaches for making the season so wonderful for every club member.
