The Morden Magics Gymnastics Club recently donated equipment to the Altona gym club.

Morden Magics rep Joelle Borne explains equipment is crucial for gymnastics, and supporting other community gym programs benefits the entire region.

"By supporting other community clubs we are allowing Manitoba to become sort of a nursery for high level gymnasts," Borne says. "As they progress they may need to move on to clubs with higher level equipment or a full time gym facility."

She notes their program includes 219 kids in recreational gymnastics, 39 regional stream competitive gymnasts, 2 provincial stream comp., and 20 coaches and 11 apprentice coaches. A number of gymnasts also travel to Winnipeg to round out their summer training.

With the community support and success Morden has enjoyed, Borne says they're excited to be able to give back and raise awareness for gymnastics in other communities. Borne adds the sport also provides many benefits to youth as well.

"It keeps young bodies mobile and flexible and provides leadership opportunity to our youth and an outlet for skilled athletes to share their knowledge and love of the sport," she says.
