Morden City Council approved a payment of just over $11,000 last month to help maintain the city's handi-van service which had a bad financial year in 2016.

Over 100 regular handi-van customers moved out of the area or passed away last year which caused a drop in the service's income. The City of Morden sponsors the service and stepped in to keep it running.

Lory Wowk, coordinator for the Morden community handi-van, said this sort of assistance is fairly normal as it's a non-profit organization providing a service.

"We are an aging population, but due to death or other things that may happen, we may have a deficit year because we lose our clients," said Wowk.

The Morden handi-van offers around 400 rides per month.

"[Our customers] go to dentists, doctor's appointments, visiting, banking, we'll take them to all of those," Wowk said.
