Morden hit the ice today in support of the Pembina Valley Humane Society(PVHS), for the 5th annual Giant Tiger Curl for the Critter Funspiel.

Holly Thorne, PR Co-Chair with the PVHS says the event is a fun way to connect with family and friends while supporting the organization.

“The best part is that you don't have to know how to curl or be like Jennifer Jones…you just have to have a love of animals and a desire to help the animals in our care find their “fur”ever homes.”

Funds raised go towards the PVHS' veterinary expenses, for spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and other animal care.

The non-profit organization funded primarily by donations and relies on volunteers for everything from daily chores to helping at events like the Funspiel.

Each team is given an animal from the shelter as their mascot, that they're playing for says PR Chair Megan Rodgers. She notes the event is always exciting and is a great way to bring awareness for the shelter, and the adoption process.

"We really want to match people with the best animal for their lifestyle. We also have an approval process to make sure people can take care of the animal, so we ask for a couple of references."

Rodgers encourages anyone who is interested in adding a pet to their family to visit the shelter in Morden.

Thorne says attendance was slightly down this year with only seven teams that signed up, but early estimates suggest the shelter will still raise between $1,200 to $1,500.
