A Morden resident is battling for his life in Saskatoon.

Cody Unrau was hit by a car while walking in downtown Saskatoon September 1 and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The 23-year-old was walking across a street when he was struck.

"The saddest part was he was thrown ten feet into the air, and landed on his head on the curb," Unrau's aunt Lillian Hildebrand says. "They can't even put his skull back together because his brain is so swollen."

Unrau is receiving treatment for pneumonia as well.

With months of recovery ahead of Cody, the family is facing the financial challenges of living away from home.

However, the community has rallied around the family through a gofundme campaign.

"We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for helping us while we are away from home," the family said in a statement. "Without your help, we wouldn't be able to afford to be here with Cody."

While they can't say if Cody will walk again, the family says doctors are optimistic as he is a healthy young man with a strong heart.

"Please continue to keep Cody in your prayers."
