Morden Police members are breaking down barriers between authority figures and youth.

For the past couple of weeks, Morden officers have been taking part in intramurals with students at Ecole Morden Middle School.

Constable April Penner is one of the spearheaders of the initiative.

"Lots of our officers have kids in grade school and they're involved with coaching certain sports or Cadets," said Constable April Penner. "There are some kids who aren't involved in those sports and I was thinking this was a good way to get to know these other kids."

She said the effort is making police officers more approachable and showing the students at a young age that they're here to help.

Officers have hit the courts with students on four occasions so far, and Penner said the response has been great.

"The feedback I'm getting from the Principal Susanne Powell is that they're loving it and my co-workers are too," said Penner.
