In the early morning hours of March, 18 Morden Police observed a vehicle driving with its high beam lights on.

Police had attempted several times to get the driver to dim their lights, but the driver failed to do so. It was at this time Morden Police activited their emergency lights and stopped the vehicle.

During the stop one of the occupants was seen to reach into the back seat of the vehicle. Police seized several cans of open liquor from the vehicle during the traffic stop.

Upon speaking with the driver an odour of liquor was detected on her breath. When Officers were speaking with the driver she wouldn't look at them and the passenger attempted to answer the questions which were asked of the driver.

Officers asked the driver to provide a sample on a roadside screening device which they subsequently failed. The driver was arrested and brought back to Morden Police Service for further testing which resulted in blood alcohol readings of 120 and 110 mg%.

As a result the 23-year-old female driver from Winnipeg has been charged with impaired driving and will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in April.

March 14th, 2018

A vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Royal Bank in Morden had its windshield damaged sometime around 2:30 pm this date.  The driver parked and returned only 15 minutes later to find someone had keyed the windshield.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

March 16th, 2018

Police were dispatched around 4:00 pm regarding a male that appeared to be intoxicated and having difficulty walking along Thornhill Street.  The caller was concerned that the individual might walk out into traffic.  Police attended and located the male who was unsteady on his feet and smelled heavily of liquor.  The 29-year-old male was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.  A check with police dispatch indicated the male was also on a Probation Order with conditions not to consume alcohol.  He was lodged in cells until sober and later released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in April.  He is charged with one count of Breach of Probation.  

March 18th, 2018

Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle around 2:35 pm and while approaching the vehicle, a strong odor of fresh-burnt marihuana was detected coming from inside.  Police observed a large bong between the passenger’s legs and the passenger admitted to having a small quantity of marihuana in a backpack at his feet.  Police found a quantity of marihuana as well as some shatter in the backpack along with a bud buster on the passenger’s seat.  The 19-year-old male from Morden is charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in April.
