The following is the Morden Police Service Report for the period of June 26 to July 4, 2017, as submitted by the department.

June 26th, 2017

Police were called to the McDonald’s restaurant in Morden around 10:00 am regarding a disturbance.  Police arrived to find a female outside yelling and causing a disturbance.  The female advised that she had a disagreement with the manager inside the restaurant and was upset.  The 28-year-old female was advised that she was being banned from the restaurant due to her actions and that no charges would be brought against her.

June 27th, 2017

Police received a 911 call to a motor vehicle accident on Route 100 and Grant Street in Morden.  A vehicle was travelling north bound on Route 100 when the driver and lone occupant, lost control of his vehicle hitting the east ditch and collided with a culvert.  The driver admitted to be travelling 70km/hr. in a posted 50km/hr. zone.  The 21-year-old male driver from Morden was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Drive Imprudently.  There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

June 27th, 2017

There were no injuries as a result of a motor vehicle accident at the corner of 9th Street and Thornhill Street.  A vehicle was travelling east on Thornhill Street while a second vehicle was travelling west on Thornhill Street.  The second vehicle made a left turn in front of the eastbound vehicle causing a collision.  The air bags were deployed on one of the vehicles and required towing.   

June 28th, 2017

The Minnewasta campground received some complaints of thefts from campsites involving a fridge and some coolers.  One of the campsites had a small 3 foot fridge removed from its site while another had a fridge unplugged but was left behind.  Police are reminding campers to ensure they lock up valuables as much as possible at night or when away from their site.

June 28th, 2017

A 31-year-old male is charged with failing to appear for identification purposes. The accused was charged with breach of probation and served a summons to appear in court as well as the Morden Police Service on June 27th, 2017 for the purpose of providing his fingerprints.  The accused failed to attend and will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in July.

June 28th, 2017

Police were called to a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Thornhill Street and 12th Street in Morden.  A vehicle was travelling north bound on 12th Street and made a left turn in front of a vehicle travelling east on Thornhill Street.  Again, there were no injuries but one of the vehicles required towing from the scene.


July 1st, 2017

Around 2:45 am, police observed a vehicle with Saskatchewan license plates roll through a stop sign on 10th Street and Thornhill Street in Morden.  The vehicle was stopped and upon speaking with the driver, police could detect an odor of liquor.  There were several liquor containers on the floor in the front passenger area.  A check with police dispatch also revealed that the passenger in the vehicle had a Warrant for Arrest from Winnipeg Police Service.  Police attempted to place the passenger under arrest for the Warrant but he became argumentative and refused to exit the vehicle.  The passenger grabbed the steering wheel and braced himself in the vehicle.  Eventually, police were able to remove him from the vehicle and secured him in the back of the police vehicle.  The driver was requested to provide a sample of his breath on a roadside screening device but also became uncooperative and refused to provide a proper sample.  He later required transportation to Boundary Trails Health Centre for a medical condition.  Police had to remain with the driver in the ambulance during transportation at which time he attempted to bite and knee police.  Found on the driver was a quantity of marihuana in a baggie as well as a few marihuana joints.  As a result, the 20-year-old driver from Saskatchewan was charged with Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample, Assault Peace Officer, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  He will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in September.  The 20-year-old passenger from Winkler was charged with Resist Arrest as a result of this incident and arrested on the Warrant from Winnipeg Police Service which included charges of Flight while pursued by a Police Officer, As a Driver Fail to Stop and Remain for a Police Officer, Drive without a License, Drive while Disqualified, Drive an Unregistered Vehicle, Drive without Liability Insurance and Drive without Certificate of Insurance.  As a result of all these charges, he was remanded into custody and transported to the Winnipeg Remand Centre where he awaits his next court date.  

July 2nd, 2017

At 9:26 pm, police were at the corner of Highway 14 and Highway 3 in the RM of Stanley when they observed a vehicle with two occupants inside known to be on an order not to have any contact or communication with one another.  The vehicle was stopped and the occupants reminded of their Undertakings and the subsequent breach of conditions.  The 31-year-old female driver from Morden was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in September charged with Breach of Undertaking.  The 30-year-old male passenger was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in August charged with Breach of Undertaking.

July 3rd, 2017
Police were on general patrol around 11:00 am when they observed a driver known to have an invalid license.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver was advised that he had been charged just recently for driving with an invalid license but forgot.  The driver appeared nervous and confused when looking for his registration.  Police observed him reaching for a backpack that was by his feet and then attempted to hide something in his hand.  The driver had a sealed bag of shatter in his hand and was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and while doing so, threw two small baggies onto the ground.  One of the baggies contained a white crushed substance believed to be meth while the other baggie contained three multi-colored tabs of what is believed to be LSD.  Located inside the vehicle was a a large 15" glass tube with 72 grams of marihuana in it, a multi coloured rubber bong and a large ceremonial knife with a 9" blade.  Also in the vehicle were two passengers.  One of the passengers in the vehicle had a quantity of marihuana in his pocket and was on an Undertaking not to be in possession of any controlled substance.  The 25-year-old driver from Morden was arrested and charged with Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), Possession of Marihuana, Possession of a weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Drive without Driver Liability Insurance.  He was held in custody to attend Morden Provincial Court in the morning.  The 26-year-old passenger from Morden was released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in August charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Breach of Undertaking.  
During this period, members of the Morden Police Service issued 7 Provincial Offence Notices to motorists.  Out of these Offence Notices, 3 were issued for driving an unregistered vehicle, 2 for driving without driver liability insurance, 1 for drivers using their cell phones or other hand operated electronic devices while driving a vehicle and 1 for disobeying a red light.
