The following is the Morden Police Service report of the period of December 5th to December 17th, 2016, as submitted by the department.

December 5th, 2016

Police have charged a 26-year-old female from Morden with three counts of Obtaining Credit by Fraud or False Pretence.  The female attended the Giant Tiger store Morden, stocked her shopping cart and then proceeded to the checkout.  When at the checkout, she asked to return some items in order to get credit because the store has a no receipt return policy.  The female signed a receipt and received credit for the items the she never did initally pay for.  The accused was arrested and admitted to purchasing some items from the store that day with the credit and then returned the next day to purchase more items with the remaining credit.  The total amount of credit obtained was approximately $111.00.  The accused was released on a Promise to Appear in Morden Provincial Court in January.

December 5th, 2016

Police are investigating the fraudulent use of a debit card after the owner forgot to remove their card from the automated teller machine.  The owner used the bank card at the ATM around 2:00 pm on the 2nd of December and then realized she either forgot her card or lost it.  She checked her account later and noticed several transactions using her debit card at locations in Morden and some in Winkler.  Police are continuing their investigation.

December 5th, 2016

Police received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred on November 25h around noon in the parking lot of Décor Cabinets in Morden. December 9th, 2016

There was an attempted break in at Boundary Plumbing and Heating located on Stephen Street in Morden.  No one had been at the business over the last couple of days due to the weather but today, employees noticed pry marks on the back door.  Suspects did not gain entry into the building.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

December 9th, 2016

Police received a report of another hit and run accident that occurred on December 6th between 8:45 am and 5:00 pm in the parking of the Family Services building on North Railway Street in Morden. December 9th, 2016

A 911 call was received of a four-vehicle accident at the corner of 2nd Street and Thornhill Street in Morden.  Fire Rescue and ambulance were also dispatched.  Police attended to find that a vehicle was travelling east on Thornhill Street in the median lane.  A second vehicle was travelling west bound on Thornhill Street in the curb lane.  The first vehicle made a left turn north onto 2nd Street and was struck on the passenger’s side by the westbound vehicle.  As a result, the first vehicle was pushed into a third vehicle that was stopped facing southbound on 2nd Street at the stop sign and then pushed back into a fourth vehicle behind.  Two occupants of the first vehicle received minor injuries and one was transported by ambulance to Boundary Trails Health Centre for further observation.  Two of the vehicles required towing from the scene.

December 9th, 2016

Police have charged a 31-year-old Morden man with two counts of uttering threats as well as one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.  Police were called around 9:00 pm regarding two people who attended a residence to pick up some personal items.  As they drove past the house, the accused exited the home holding a knife in his hand. The people remained in their vehicle and began to drive away as the accused ran down the driveway swinging the knife.  After driving away, one of the individuals received a phone call from the accused and stated he was going to kill her and the passenger in her car.  The accused was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking with conditions to have no contact or communication with the two victims.  He will be appearing in Morden Provincial Court in January.

December 11th, 2016

Police received a call around 4:55 am from a female requesting her intoxicated boyfriend be removed from the home, as he was upset and throwing things around.  Police could hear yelling in the background and immediately attended.  The caller let police into the home and directed police to the bedroom where the suspect was.  The suspect, who showed signs of intoxication, immediately got upset and began swearing at police.  He was placed under arrest for breach of peace and escorted out of the home.  The suspect continued to be difficult, challenging police to remove his handcuffs to see what would happen.  The accused was lodged in cells and released later in the day when sober without charges.  Minutes later, police were called to the same residence advising the male was again out of control.  Police attended but found that the caller was in fact the one that appeared to be upset and causing the issues this time.  Neither reported any assault or threats and police remained on scene until one of the occupants left the residence to stay at another location.  No further action was required at this time.

December 11th, 2016

Multiple 911 calls were received around 10:15 pm of a male walking into traffic on highway #3 between the John Deere dealership and Morden.  Police attended and found the male in the west bound lanes attempting to get into a vehicle.  Police approached the male who had a strong odor of liquor on his breath.  The accused was belligerent with police and tried to walk away.  He was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and lodged in cells overnight until sober.  He was released in the morning without charges.
