The following is the Morden Police Report for the period of May 1st to May 8th, 2017, as submitted by the department.

May 1st, 2017

Members of the Morden Police Service received several 911 calls, to a disturbance at a residence, and one call from neighbours reporting screaming.    Police arrived on scene and were met by one of the parties advising police that the female suspect had thrown a bottle at her one year old causing the child to cry.  As police approached the residence, the suspect threw an object at police and slammed the door on officers.  Police entered the residence to arrest the suspect and she continued to resist the arrest.  While officers were dealing with the suspect, a male occupant became aggressive with officers and a conducted energy weapon was used to gain his compliance.  Police were able to get all parties safely removed from the residence and the child did not require medical attention.  As a result of this incident, a 31-year-old female resident of Morden has been charged with Assault, Resisting Arrest, Breach of her Recognizance and 2 x Breach of her Probation Order.  The accused was remanded into police custody and she will appear in court at a later date.

May 2nd, 2017

A warrant of arrest has been issued for 44-year-old Jeffery Isaac Lee DYCK of Winkler.  DYCK had been released on his own Recognizance on prior charges and failed to comply with the conditions of his release.  Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

May 4th, 2017

On this date at 10:00 am members of the Morden Police Service were investigating a suspicious vehicle that was stuck in a drainage ditch at the Minnewasta Campground.   Upon arriving at the vehicle, police conducted a licence plate check and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the morning from Roseau River.   Police observed the vehicle to have three female youths inside the vehicle.  All occupants were arrested by police and transported to the Morden Police Service.  As a result of this incident, three female youths, between the ages of 12 and 13, have been charged and will be appearing for court in Emerson, MB in July.  All youths were turned over to adult relatives and members of the Dakota Ojibway Police Service are assisting with the investigation.

May 5th, 2017

Police received a report of a lost cell phone which occurred somewhere between the Ecole Morden Middle School and the Morden Daycare.   The phone was described as a grey LG smartphone.   If this phone is located police are asking them to contact the Morden Police Service to return it to its owner.

May 6th, 2017

Police received a report from the victim advising that they had been contacted by the suspect, contrary to a Protection Order that was granted by the courts.  Police received a formal statement from the victim and confirmed that the suspect had been served with the Protection Order.   Police continue to investigate this matter and charges are pending.


During this reporting period, police issued 4 Provincial Offence Notices for drivers caught using their cell phones while driving.  Police remind the public that over and above the usual safety concerns, this ticket carries a penalty of $203.80 and points against their licence.
