Borsch Ukrainian Culture Club held pilot classes for their new Ukrainian United School this weekend.

Beginning officially October 14, the classes held at École Morden Middle School will teach about Ukrainian culture, literature, music, and history.

Artem Popov, a teacher at the school, shared that these classes are a way to preserve Ukrainian culture and teach his and other children of their cultural background.

"First we have our kids, we also have a lot of people from different parts of Ukraine as well as newcomers different countries interested in Ukrainian culture. For all of us, it is important to preserve our native language, our native history, and our native culture."

Yevgeniya Tatarenko creator of Borsch and the school says anyone interested in Ukrainian culture is welcome.

Tatarenko notes that the classes aren't your normal school classes, with sharing from both the students and teachers along with a number of hands-on interactions with a number of Ukrainian items.

Not only will there be teachers at the school, speakers currently in the Ukraine will share their stories and the history of the country.

Classes will be on Saturdays, broken down into Ukrainian and Non-Ukrainian speaking classes, with both kid and adult options.
