Grade four students at Minnewasta and Maple Leaf Elementary Schools are learning how to code.

Fellow students Ivan and Miya, created a game together where the player can create music.

Last week students gathered for the second annual Coding Quest Arcade at Maple Leaf school where they learned how to create video games, animations, and short stories, while allowing for a lot of collaboration among the students. With very little teacher intervention, the students were given free reign over their own creations.

Andrew Volk, the principal for the Minnewasta Elementary School, explained the skills learned in the program will give the students an advantage later on in life when they start to enter the work force.

Johanna, a student at the Arcade, had created a maze, and noted that it took "about a week" to make.

"I hope to see that we would see more kids in more grades experimenting with coding and learning some of the basics," explained Volk, further encouraging the students to seek more from the program and hoping for it to be integrated into the education system further down the road.
